Football Tricks a fun game made with a very cute and understated graphics style. The characters stand still with a very confident smirk on their face, ready to kick the ball and confident that they will score. The stadium lighting, overcast evening sky, and the full stadium in the background creates a very good environment in which to kick the ball around the defenders and into the goal.
On the first glance, I took the game Football Tricks to be a sort of sports/action game that is already overdone and overpopulated on the browser and mobile mediums.
However, what Football Tricks presented was something that came with such a better gameplay experience. The player is presented with puzzles the ball must be kicked through, by using the mouse to decide on the angle and power of the kicks. The player must finesse balls over, under, and through obstacles.
It forgoes the action and athleticism of football, and replaces it by making the player complete puzzles in order to score their much sought after goal. The first level presents you with an easy obstacle. A defensive player stands in between the player you control and the net. Your objective: kick the ball over the defender’s head and right into the goal to get your hard earned points. As you progress through the game, each level being presented as one-half of the game against an opposing team, the puzzles the player must clear become more intricate. Blocks that must be broken or avoided added, then more opposing players, and even teammates of your own that will kick the ball towards the goal so long as you manage to it to them.
Football Tricks is easily one of the most addicting browser or mobile game that I have played in a great while. Anyone one with even a small amount of free time should give it a try immediately.
